Shelby
Sadly missed by Marilynn, Doug, Peter, Diane, Ben, Alex, Hannah, Jack and several neighbours.
On December 28, 2010 we met the most endearing animal that instantly melted our hearts. Her name was Shelby, a rescue dog that had been returned to the humane society twice. Shelby was currently living in a foster home due to severe stress from being in the shelter.
As we left the foster home, Shelby was so happy and excited, somehow, she knew that she was not returning to the shelter nor to foster care. In fact, when we got home and out of the car, she confidently trotted right up to the door of the house, as she knew she was at her forever home! In the summer, Shelby relished laying on the lawn and watching the world go by, every so often giving a little bark to the many squirrels that would pass through the yard, reaffirming to them that this was her home.
Over the years Shelby attached herself to everyone she met, she was the most gentle, affectionate and kindest of souls. Shelby loved to wander the yard and never left the property. She also loved to visit with family and friends when they came over and easily befriended our elderly neighbours, bringing much joy to them. Shelby truly filled everyone’s heart with happiness.
We know that if Shelby had met Dr. Erica, she would have instantly befriended her too! Dr. Erica’s love and devotion for animals would be undeniable to any dog. On that very sad night that Shelby slipped away, Dr. Erica assisted us with the unbearable grief of losing our dear friend and special family member. After we planned Shelby’s memorial, Dr. Erica lovingly took Shelby away, reassuring us that Shelby passed pain free and naturally.
We become so accustomed to the presence of our dogs around us that we often take that for granted. When they are gone, they leave the biggest hole in our hearts and the silence of their absence is deafening. Dr. Erica’s kind words, condolences and professionalism were a huge comfort to us as we grieved the loss of our dearest family member.
Good bye to our sweet Shelby girl, we will always love you! XOXO
Thank you, Dr. Erica for all your help through this difficult time.
