Gambit Carey
August 2008 - June 2nd 2026My boy. My fierce creature. My handsome bastard.
This house feels impossibly empty already without you—but I know it was your time to go. You were so tired, and I am so glad you get to rest now.
It's hard to put into words how much you have meant to those of us who were in your pride. Thank you doesn't begin to cover the gratitude I have for the joy and comfort you brought to my girls. For the giggles and happiness you gave them through countless play sessions.
They both still have tiny faded scars from when you may have been a little too rough—but you never hurt them. I am certain they wouldn't trade those marks on their skin for anything. They are marks of love from their most cherished pal.
You cuddled them when they were sad. You slept beside them in their darkest times. You helped them see and learn what unconditional love is, and what a precious gift the creatures around us can be. You did this better than any cat I've ever known.
You struck fear into the hearts of those vets who had to poke you when you were young and fierce. It was an all-hands-on-deck operation every time. Still, they all loved you.
To every other stranger, you never hesitated to walk right over and show your heart. You never failed to stun them with your beauty and your big heart.
And for me... I do not have the words.
"Gambit"
"A clever or strategic action or plan intended to achieve a goal—often involving some risk or trade-off."
This is how I gave you your name and how you came into our lives.
I knew from the moment I saw a Savannah cat that I had to have one. So beautiful. So exotic.
So. Damn. Expensive.
Outside of my price range for sure... so I came up with a plan. I took a chance.
I mocked up a website design specifically for cat breeders of your kind. I found three breeders in Ontario, and I sent them a proposal:
"How would you like to trade a website for a Savannah kitten?"
Two of the three said yes. My gambit paid off. You got your name.
We picked you from the litter. Actually, you picked us. There was no other option. You declared immediately that you were coming home with us.
Thank you for being such a huge part of this family.
I will miss you forever.
My boy. 💙 🐾
