Sweety-Kitty

Ode to Sweety-Kitty, the "Sweetiest of all Sweety-Kittys"

From the streets of war-torn Sarajevo, to the warm confines of your home in Canada, and the Netherlands in between, You lived a life of adventure that most humans never enjoy,

As long as you were with "your people" you were happy, anywhere, doing anything. Happy on Mommy's lap, Working from home with Daddy, Meowing loudly when you wanted Mommy's attention or to be picked up. Helping Daddy as co-pilot on our car trips. Eating your favorite food, rare roast beef, and lapping up cream, Feasting on roast chicken and steak, You were the Queen of Kitties and revelled in the royal treatment,

You were a Mommy to four kittens, and a wonderful Mommy you were. You took good care of your kittens although you were just a kitten yourself when you gave birth, Once they were off on their own adventure you truly became our pet.

You were my one and only.

You loved to sit in the window, with the screen open, while Mommy and Daddy sat on the porch, our way to be together.  You were Chief Mouser and enjoyed presenting us with a gift now and then. Sometimes you were naughty. You escaped past us in the doorway, or knocked out the screen, in a quest for momentary freedom.

You always came home when you were hungry and tired, knowing we would be grateful to see you, and that we would not be angry. Once you took a flying leap out an open window in Sarajevo, and landed on your feet. We called you "Skitty Kitty".

The one and only time I opened the door to the patio in our home in The Hague you jumped on to our neighbor's roof, four stories up. My heart was in my throat but I managed to coax you in safely.

When we were finally all together again in Canada we, like the rest of the world, were locked into our homes. In hindsight this was the greatest gift Mommy and Daddy could have received.

We spent quality time with you over those years, enjoying the time together that was often not possible as we scurried about in our busy lives.

When it was your time to leave us you let me know. We spent your last day doing your favorite things and just being together.

As the year anniversary of your passing approaches I hope you know just how much you are loved and missed.

You were the greatest gift I ever received and you will forever be my one and only Sweety-Kitty.
